Cecil Mack
American composer, lyricist and music publisher Cecil Mack moved to New York City at the turn of the 20th century, where he started out as a stenographer. He began writing song lyrics, one of his first being "Good Morning, Carrie" (1901). In May 1905, he co-founded the Gotham-Attucks Music Publishing Company. He continued to work as a lyricist too and his notable hits include "He's a Cousin of Mine" (1902), "Old Fashioned Love" (1923) and "The Charleston" (1923), co-written with James P. Johnson. He also co-wrote the music for many musicals, including "The Black Politician", "Mooching Along" and "Rhapsody in Black."
