Al Jolson Al Jolson was an American singer, comedian, and actor. He influenced many singers, such as Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bob Dylan. In the 1930s, he was the most famous and highest paid entertainer in America. Between 1911 and 1928, Jolson had nine sell-out Winter Garden shows in a row, more than 80 hit records, and 16 national and international tours. Yet he's best remembered today for his leading role in the first talking movie ever made, "The Jazz Singer" (1927).

Goodbye blues
Birdies are singing every old things in tune
Goodbye blues
Nothing but laughter morning and afternoon
I saw a rose bud in a star
So I’m going where there’s more
Goodbye blues
Troubles are over I’m in clover
I’m Alabama bound

I'm Alabamy bound,
There'll be no heebie jeebies hangin' round.
Just gave the meanest ticket mam on earth
All I'm worth,
To put my tootsies in an upper berth.

Just hear that choo-choo sound,
I know that soon we're gonna cover ground,
And then I'll holler so
The world will know;
Here I go!
I'm Alabamy bound!

I'm Alabamy bound,
There'll be no heebie jeebies hangin' round.
Just gave the meanest ticket mam on earth
All I'm worth,
To put my tootsies in an upper berth.

Just hear that choo-choo sound,
I know that soon we're gonna cover ground,
And then I'll holler so
The world will know;
Here I go!
I'm Alabamy bound!

[Original]

Life is not a highway strewn with flowers
Still it holds a goodly share of bliss
When the sun gives way to April showers
Here's the point you should never miss

Though April showers
May come your way
They bring the flowers
That bloom in May
So if it's raining
Have no regrets
Because, it isn't raining rain, you know
It's raining violets
And when you see clouds
Upon the hill
You soon will see crowds
Of daffodils
So keep on looking, for a bluebird
And listening for his song
Whenever April showers come along

And when you see clouds
Upon the hill
You soon will see crowds
Of daffodils
So keep on looking, for a bluebird
And listening for his song
Whenever April showers come along

What a beautiful day
For a wedding in May
See the people all stare
At the lovable pair
She's a vision of joy
He's the luckiest boy
In his wedding array
Hear him smilingly say....

The bells are ringing for me and my gal
The birds are singing for me and my gal
Ev'rybody's been knowing to a wedding they're going
And for weeks they're been sewing, ev'ry Susie and Sal
They're congregating for me and my gal
The Parson's waiting for me and my gal
And sometime, I'm goin' to build a little home for two
For three or four, or more, in Loveland for me and my gal

See the relatives there,
Looking over the pair
They can tell at a glance
It's a loving romance
It's a wonderful sight
As the fam'lies unite
Gee! it makes the boy proud
As he says to the crowd....

As recorded by PERRY COMO:

The bells are ringin' for me an' my gal
The birds are singin' for me an' my gal
Everybody's been knowin' to a weddin' they're goin'
An' for weeks they've been sewin', every Susie and Sal

They're congregatin' (ding-dong-ding-dong)
For me an' my gal (ding-dong-ding-dong)
The Parson's waitin' (ding-dong-ding-dong)
For me and my gal (ding-dong-ding-dong)
An' someday I'm gonna build a little home for two
Or three or four, or more
In Loveland, for me an' my gal

See the relatives there, lookin' over the pair
They can tell at a glance, it's a loving romance
It's a wonderful sight, as the families unite
See it makes the boy proud, as he says to the crowd

The bells are ringin' for me an' my gal
The birds are singin' for me an' my gal
Everyone's been knowin' (all our friends and our relations)
To a weddin' they're goin' (will be at the railroad station)
An' for weeks they've been sewin' (or they'll send congratulations)
Every Susie and Sal (for me an' my gal)

They're congregatin' for me an' my gal
The Parson's waitin' for me and my gal
An' someday I'm gonna build a little home for two
(Or three or four) or more (or more)
In Loveland (Loveland)
In Loveland (Loveland)
In Loveland, for me an' my gal

Lyrics
I'm sitting on top of the world,
Just rolling along
Just rolling along
I'm quitting the blues of the world
Just singing a song
Just singing a song
Glory hallelujah, I just phoned the parson
Hey, par, get ready to call
Just like humpty dumpty,
I'm going to fall
I'm sitting on top of the world
Just rolling along
Just rolling along
Some people have diamonds
And beautiful pearls
While others have children
Just kiddies with curls
Keep all of your fortunes
Keep all of your fame
I just found a sweetie
Who's changing her name
I'm sitting on top of the world
just rolling along
just rolling along
I'm quitting the blues of the world
Just singing a song
Just singing a song
Glory hallelujah, I just phoned the parson
Hey, par, get ready to call
Just like humpty dumpty,
I'm going to fall
I'm sitting on top of the world
just rolling along
just rolling along
Don't want any millions
I'm getting my share
I've only got one suit (one suit)
That's all I can wear
A bundle of money won't make you feel gay
A sweet little honey is making me say
I'm sitting on top of the world
just rolling along
just rolling along
I'm quitting the blues of the world
Just singing a song
Just singing a song
Glory hallelujah, I just phoned the parson
Hey, par, get ready to call
Just like humpty dumpty,
I'm going to fall
I'm sitting on top of the world
just rolling along
just rolling along

Everything is lovely
When you start to roam;
The birds are singin', the day that you stray,
But later, when you are further away,
Things won't seem so lovely
When you're all alone;
Here's what you'll keep saying
When you're far from home:

Mammy,
Mammy,
The sun shines east, the sun shines west,
I know where the sun shines best--
Mammy,
My little mammy,
My heartstrings are tangled around Alabammy.
I'm comin',
Sorry that I made you wait.
I'm comin',
Hope and trust that I'm not late, oh oh oh
Mammy,
My little Mammy,
I'd walk a million miles
For one of your smiles,
My Mammy! Oh oh oh...

(SPOKEN) Mammy...
My little Mammy.
The sun shines east-- the sun shines west--
I know where-- the sun shines best!
It's on my Mammy I'm talkin' about, nobody else's!
(SUNG) My little Mammy,
My heartstrings are tangled around Alabammy.
(SPOKEN) Mammy-- Mammy, I'm comin'--
I'm so sorry that I made you wait!
Mammy-- Mammy, I'm comin'!
Oh God, I hope I'm not late!
Look at me, Mammy! Don't you know me?
I'm your little baby!
(SUNG) I'd walk a million miles
For one of your smiles,
My Mammy!

Lyrics
Honey dear, want you near
Just turn down the light and then come over here
Nestle close up to my side
My heart's afire with love's desire
In my arms, rest complete
I never thought that life could ever be so sweet
Till I met you, some time ago
But now I know I love you so

Oh, you beautiful doll
You great, big beautiful doll
Let me put my arms about you
I could never live without you
Oh, you beautiful doll
You great, big beautiful doll
If you ever leave me, how my heart will ache
I want to hug you, but I fear you'd break
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh, you beautiful doll

Precious prize, close your eyes
Now we're goin' to visit Lovers' Paradise
Press your lips again to mine
For love is king of ev'rything
Squeeze me, dear! I don't care!
Hug me just as if you were a grizzly bear
This is how I'll go through life
No care or strife when you're my wife

Oh, you beautiful doll
You great, big beautiful doll
Let me put my arms about you
I could never live without you
Oh, you beautiful doll
You great, big beautiful doll
If you ever leave me, how my heart will ache
I want to hug you, but I fear you'd break
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh, you beautiful doll

Lyrics
Rock a bye, your baby,
with a dixie melody.
When you croon, croon a tune,
from the heart of dixie.

Just hang my cradle, mammy mine,
right on that masoned, dixen line.
And swing it from virginia, to tennese,
with all the love that's in ya.

Weep no more, my lady,
sing that song again, for me.
Sing on black joe, just as though,
you have me on your knees.

A Million baby kisses, i'll deliver,
if you will only play that swanee river.
Rock a bye your rock a bye baby,
with a dixie melody.

OH!!Weep no more, my lady,
sing that song again, for me.
Sing on black joe, just as though,
you have me on your knees.

A Million baby kisses, i'll deliver,
if you will only play that swanee river.
Rock a bye your rock a bye baby,
with a dixie melody!

Lyrics
Climb upon my knee, Sonny Boy,
Though you're only three, Sonny Boy,
You've no way of knowing,
There's no way of showing,
What you mean to me, Sonny Boy.
When there are grey skies,
I don't mind the grey skies,
You make them blue, Sonny Boy.
Friends may forsake me,
Let them all forsake me,
I still have you, Sonny Boy.

You're sent from Heaven
And I know your worth,
You've made a Heaven
For me, right here on Earth
When I'm old and grey, dear,
Promise you won't stray, dear
For I love you so, Sonny Boy.

When there are grey skies,
I don't mind the grey skies,
You make them blue, Sonny Boy.
Friends may forsake me,
Let `em, let `em all forsake me,
I still have you, Sonny Boy.

You're sent from Heaven
And I know your worth,
Why, you made a Heaven
For me, right here on Earth.

And the Angels, they grew lonely,
And they took you because they were lonely,
Now I'm lonely too, Sonny Boy.

You made me love you
I didn't wanna do it
I didn't wanna do it
You made me want you
And all the time you knew it
I guess you always knew it

You made me happy sometimes
You made me glad
But there were times
You made me feel so bad

You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do

Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you

You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
